Strong lips are always a feature of Christmas and New Year beauty looks. For those that dare, deep purple lips are bang on-trend.

Nars Velvet Matte lip pencil in Train Bleu is a rich, blue-based mulberry lip colour. It’s highly recommended by industry-insiders and Nars-lovers everywhere. I love how the matte finish stops such a strong colour from looking OTT. The super-matte texture can be drying on the lips though, so prep and prime lips well.

The big downside with the Nars matte lip pencils are the price £17.50 for 2.4g.

Luckily the high street has a high-quality, low-price solution.

Sleek True Colour Sheen lipstick in shade 788, Mulberry. Available at just £4.99 for 3.5g. It’s just as pigmented but has a slight sheen finish so isn’t as drying as the Nars pencil. It’s a great way to dip your toes into the vampy lip trend without breaking the bank.

Feeling brave this New Years’ Eve? Try a deep berry lip for instant wow factor!
