Once upon a time, in a land far far away, disposable makeup applicators were born. The first generation were functional, and practical for makeup artists practising ‘Safe Beauty‘. The downside to their disposable nature was that they weren’t designed with pro quality in mind.
Lip brushes were paintbrush-like in texture and weren’t made for precision application. Mascara brushes only came in one brush size, length and head shape. Lip gloss had to be applied with the mini-paintbrush, there were no lip gloss wands.
The good news is that this is Europe in 2012 and not a land far far away. We have some amazing beauty tools stockists right here on our doorstep. My favourite UK stockists are Pro Makeup Shop and Guru Makeup Emporium.
The Pro Makeup Shop opened in 2008 and has been the leading disposable beauty tool supplier in the UK. Their mantra “Love me, then dump me xx” describes their range perfectly. High quality tools that pros love.
Guru Makeup Emporium are based in Fulham, London (nearest tube: Parsons Green). Guru has a vast array of products covering a range of brands all available online.
I had a bit of a mad dash at the Pro Makeup Shop stall at Olympia Beauty 2012 and discovered some fantastic disposable tools that are perfect for work on shoots.
Here are my favourites:
Big Bertha – Fat mascara wand
Catwalk Catherine – Spiked ball mascara wand
Lip brushes (L – R: precision, precision, basic)
Another cheeky fave (not Pro Makeup Shop) is the lip gloss wand from E.L.F. (Eyes Lips Face). I use this on most of my makeup assignments and love the precision you can get when using coloured/ deeply pigmented glosses in place of lipstick.
Pro Makeup Store (based in Amsterdam)
If you’ve got any tried and tested stockists, let me know and I’ll credit you and will add them here.
